Pink Ombré Nail Tutorial

I’ve been dying to try the new ombré nail trend, so today I tried it out for the first time.  I think it turned out really nicely!  I was having trouble getting a picture that did it justice, but luckily the sun came out for just a few minutes so I managed to get one.  I decided to do it with two of my favourite pink polishes, with a glitter accent nail; I love my accent nail so much, I’m tempted to do all of them like this.

If you want to try out this technique, its actually quite easy!  Here’s how.

What you’ll need:  A base colour, a tip colour, a glitter polish, a top coat, and a makeup sponge.

Step 1: Start with prepped nails (apply a base coat if you choose).  Apply your chosen base colour and allow it to dry completely.

Step 2: Apply both of your chosen colours to your sponge, with your base colour on the tip.

Step 3: Now for the messy/fun part!  Sponge the polish onto your nail gently.  Keep sponging so that it isn’t too thick, and the two colours are well blended.  Allow it to dry.  For the glitter, just apply that alone to the other side of the sponge, and starting at the tip of your nail, sponge it on.  This way, the majority of the glitter will be near the tip.  Continue by gently sponging a little closer to the middle of your nail so the glitter also becomes a gradient.  Let this dry.

It may look a bit messy at this stage, but don’t worry!

Step 4: Apply your top coat generously.  Don’t make it too thick, but I would recommend doing two coats of your top coat, because the sponging technique leaves its texture on your nails.  The top coat smoothes this out.  Allow this to dry.

Step 5:  If your nails are as messy as mine were, just dip a Q-tip in nail polish remover and carefully clean your fingers.

There you have it! Beautiful ombré nails.

  1. I love the addition of the glitter accent, it’s subtle but so pretty :)

I also saw a pin where you can coat the skin around your nails with elmer’s glue first, let it dry, and then do your nails — then just peel the glue off and you have no mess. I haven’t tried it, so I don’t know if it actually works…
